Nigerian Woman in Canada Faces Probe for Threatening to Poison Yoruba and Benin People

Amaka Sunnberger, a Nigerian resident in Canada, is being investigated for making threats to poison individuals of Yoruba and Benin descent. Toronto Police Service Sergeant Bassey Osagie confirmed that an investigation is underway.
The Nigerian House of Representatives and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission have urged Canadian authorities to take action against Sunnberger. The call for investigation came after a video surfaced showing her making alarming threats during a TikTok live stream. In the video, Sunnberger claimed she planned to poison the food and water of Nigerians upon arriving at her workplace.
Following the video’s circulation, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, released Sunnberger’s identity and photo. She also sent a petition to Brampton’s Mayor, Patrick Brown, to address the threats.
In response, the House of Representatives sent a letter to the Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Jamie Christoff, requesting a thorough investigation into Sunnberger’s statements. The letter emphasized the seriousness of her threats.
Sunnberger, in a subsequent video, dismissed the calls for her arrest and claimed that she held Canadian citizenship. She expressed her disdain for Yoruba and Benin people, explicitly detailing her intentions to use poison against them. Her statements have intensified calls for legal action and brought significant attention to
the case.
