Gbonka Ebiri Threatens US-Based Yoruba Leader Threatens To Invade Edo, Kidnap Monarch, Rape Wife

Gbomka Ebiri, a leader of the Yoruba First group based in the United States, has issued alarming threats against Edo State. According to a live social media broadcast, Ebiri, who resides in Atlanta, Georgia, and studied at the University of Calicut from 2013 to 2018, has threatened to invade Edo, abduct its monarch, assault his wife, and pursue the monarch to Calabar in Cross River State.

The threatening statements were made during a live social media session, with Ebiri reportedly saying, “I will invade Edo, kidnap your king, have his wife assaulted, and chase him to Calabar just like historical events.”
Efforts to reach Abdurrahman Balogun, the spokesperson for the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), for a response on any potential actions against Ebiri, were unsuccessful as he did not answer calls or respond to text messages at the time of reporting.
Ebiri’s threats follow recent outrage stemming from similar statements made by Amaka Patience Sonnberger, a Nigerian woman living in Ontario, Canada. Sonnberger, who has called for the mass poisoning of Yoruba and Benin individuals in a widely circulated TikTok video, sparked nationwide outrage. This led to a prompt response from Nigerian authorities, who contacted Canadian officials, resulting in her arrest.
In the wake of these incidents, there have been calls from various Nigerians for the arrest of individuals, including aides and supporters of President Bola Tinubu, who have made threatening or hateful remarks against other ethnic groups.
