Former APC Vice Chairman Blasts Buhari and Tinubu, Urges Opposition Unity for 2027

Former APC Vice Chairman Salihu Lukman has criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC), alongside former President Muhammadu Buhari and current President Bola Tinubu, accusing them of severely damaging Nigeria. In a statement released on Saturday in Abuja, Lukman argued that the 2027 elections offer a critical chance to effect change.

He emphasized that merely replacing the APC will not suffice. Instead, Nigerians must strive to establish a system where the new political party is empowered to hold elected officials accountable.

Lukman expressed concern that current opposition leaders are pursuing their own presidential aspirations rather than focusing on a unified strategy to address the country’s challenges. He noted that the opposition’s inability to unite is inadvertently strengthening President Tinubu’s position.

Key opposition figures such as Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Peter Obi, and Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who have previously run for president, need to move beyond their individual ambitions and collaborate to build a robust platform for 2027. Lukman criticized them for not forming a united front to challenge the APC and President Tinubu effectively.

He lamented that despite recognizing President Tinubu’s poor performance over the past year, opposition leaders are still failing to join forces in a meaningful way. Lukman urged them to overcome their personal ambitions and focus on the dire state of the nation.

He concluded by highlighting that the APC, which came to power with promises of reform, has instead exacerbated the country’s issues, including economic troubles, insecurity, and corruption. Lukman expressed disappointment that the leadership under Buhari and Tinubu has proven to be inadequate and self-serving.
