Former Chief of Army Staff, TY Danjuma Urges Military to Combat Insecurity Head-On
Former Chief of Army Staff General Theophilus Danjuma (retd) has called on active military personnel to urgently address the escalating violence and killings occurring across Nigeria. He asserted that the military must take decisive action to restore peace in troubled regions without excuses.
Danjuma made these comments during the launch of the book *Big Boots: Lessons from My Military Service* by Major General Solomon Udounwa (retd) in Abuja on Tuesday. He emphasized that insecurity is currently the nation’s most pressing issue, stating, “The number one problem today is security. We must end the violence and stop the killings happening in our country as soon as possible. Those of you who are still serving have no excuses. None.”
In response, Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa reassured attendees that the military is fully committed to restoring peace throughout the country. He emphasized that the armed forces remain dedicated to the values of service, integrity, and honor that define military tradition.
Musa stated, “Let me assure our distinguished chairman that the armed forces of Nigeria are prepared, willing, dedicated, and committed to ensuring we restore peace and security in our dear country. We shall not be deterred. Yes, there will be challenges, but that’s why we are here. We have learned from the records of distinguished senior officers who have guided us over the years. We cannot afford to fail, and we will not fail.”
