See How Seun Kuti Criticizes Tinubu’s Fuel Subsidy Removal

Afrobeat artist Seun Anikulapo-Kuti has expressed strong disapproval of President Bola Tinubu’s decision to eliminate fuel subsidies, calling it a “wicked decision” that harms the welfare of Nigerians.
Kuti countered the President’s claim that the subsidy removal was a difficult but necessary choice for the nation, arguing instead that it reflects a disregard for the people’s needs. He highlighted the government’s choice to purchase a $150 million jet while the education sector remains underfunded, stating that this amount could have been used to construct and maintain ten primary schools for two decades.
During an Instagram Live session, Kuti questioned the funding for the jet, asking, “Who contributed to the $150 million jet for Tinubu? Who solicited donations for this?”
He further emphasized the potential impact of that money, stating, “With $150 million, we could build and sustain ten primary schools for at least 20 years, providing education for multiple generations.”
Kuti insisted that the President should not claim the fuel situation is beyond his control, as he holds both the presidential and ministerial roles in the petroleum sector. He argued that the decisions being made are not truly difficult but rather reflect a lack of concern for the citizens, asserting that the issues surrounding fuel subsidies and currency management are not tough choices but misguided ones.
