See How Man was Sentenced to Six Months for Stealing Three Yam Tubers Out of Hunger

A court in Osogbo, Osun State, has sentenced Sunday Ejoh, an aluminum worker, to six months in prison for stealing three yam tubers.
During the hearing on September 23, Magistrate M. Olatunji presided over the case, where Ejoh was charged with theft of the yams valued at N3,000.
Prosecutor Jacob Akintunde explained that the incident occurred on September 22, 2024, when Ejoh took the yams belonging to Oluwole Durojaye. He noted that the stolen yams, along with a cutlass and a pair of slippers, were recovered from the defendant.
Ejoh, who had no legal representation, admitted his guilt and cited hunger as his motivation. “I was hungry, and I have a family,” he stated in court.
After finding him guilty, Magistrate Olatunji sentenced Ejoh to six months in prison, offering an alternative of a N25,000 fine. The judge also ordered that the stolen yams be returned to their rightful owner.
