Today marks the launch of the Transport Fare Drop Programme by the PCNGI, kicking off in Abuja. This initiative aims to promote the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a cleaner and more cost-effective fuel alternative.

PCNGI representatives have signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Union of Road Transport Workers to facilitate the conversion of fleet vehicles to CNG, leading to a fare reduction of 30-40% on the Abuja to Itakpe Station—Ajaokuta Train Station—Adavi route.

This initiative is designed to motivate NURTW members in Abuja to convert their vehicles to CNG, benefiting both the drivers and the passengers.

On Saturday, September 28, 2024, PCNGI will further expand its commercial incentive program with open days across 38 centers in states including Kaduna, Abuja, Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Delta, and Edo.

Additionally, the PCNGI is set to sign an agreement with the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) on Monday, September 30, to implement the Nigerian Police CNG Conversion Programme, which includes training cadets to oversee the new conversion centers supported by the NPTF.

As noted by the PCNGI’s Program Director, Michael Oluwagbemi, this initiative will equip police cadets with the skills needed to manage these important facilities.

In celebration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary on October 1, 2024, the PCNGI will launch the CNG Tricycle Empowerment Program in partnership with the Ministry of Youths. This program aims to enable over 2,000 young Nigerians to own and operate CNG-powered tricycles.

On October 2, the PCNGI will introduce the Kogi State Conversion Incentive Programme and distribute CNG buses to the state’s mass transit agency for interstate routes to Abuja. The initiative will also see the establishment of three new CNG conversion sites in Kogi.

To wrap up the week, the PCNGI will conduct a similar handover of CNG buses in Ekiti State and inaugurate four additional CNG conversion sites there.
