INEC Gives Reports of Total Party Agents that Registered for Ondo Governorship Election; See Details

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that a total of 24,148 party agents have been registered for the upcoming Ondo State governorship election, which represents 32.3% of the required number.

This information was shared in a statement on Friday by Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.

INEC indicated that the 18 political parties participating in the election were expected to submit a total of 74,790 agents to adequately cover the state’s 3,933 polling units and 222 collation centers. However, only 24,148 agents were uploaded to the commission’s portal by the September 30 deadline.

The registration portal opened on August 20, 2024, in accordance with the election schedule. The submissions included 22,689 polling agents, 1,249 ward agents, 196 local government agents, and 14 state collation agents. Notably, three political parties did not submit any agents for the election.

“In Ondo State, there are 3,933 polling units and 222 collation centers, which comprise 203 ward centers, 18 local government centers, and the state collation center in Akure,” the statement noted.

Each party is expected to nominate 4,155 agents. Given the total of 18 participating parties, the anticipated cumulative number of agents was 74,790. However, the actual submissions only amounted to 32.3% of this figure.

The Ondo governorship election is scheduled for November 16, 2024.
