EFCC Arrests 44 Alleged Online Scammers in Enugu and Anambra

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 44 individuals suspected of online fraud in Enugu and Anambra states.

These arrests took place on September 28 and 29, 2024, following reliable intelligence that connected the suspects to various internet crimes.

In a statement posted on their X account, the EFCC confirmed that the suspects were detained in multiple locations during the early hours of Saturday and Sunday.

The statement noted: “Operatives from the Enugu Zonal Directorate of the EFCC have arrested 44 suspected internet fraudsters across different sites in Enugu and Anambra States.”

Investigations revealed that the suspects had used social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook to deceive unsuspecting victims. Some were found to have assumed false identities to engage in romantic scams with foreign nationals, while others were discovered with fraudulent documents on their devices.

Additionally, the EFCC seized various items from the suspects, including laptops and high-end mobile phones.

The commission stated that the suspects would face charges in court once investigations are complete.
