Ekiti State Governor, Oyebanji Calls for Unity in Supporting Tinubu’s Reform Agenda at Southwest APC Assembly
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has urged the Yoruba community to unite behind President Bola Tinubu’s administration as it seeks to implement crucial reforms to rejuvenate the nation.
During the Southwest All Progressives Congress (APC) Assembly held on Saturday at Eko Hotel, Lagos, Governor Oyebanji addressed a gathering of current and former political leaders from the six states in the region, emphasizing the need for collective action to support the party’s future.
He stressed the importance of the Yoruba people in championing the administration’s transformative policies, assuring attendees that current economic challenges would soon be resolved. Oyebanji called on the Yoruba to stand together, highlighting their notable human capital and encouraging them to combat negative narratives.
“I urge us all to recognize our duty to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The time has come for us to stand firmly by him. We have no choice but to offer our full backing. As the Southwest, we must avoid criticism of this government,” he stated.
He encouraged dialogue, suggesting that any concerns should be addressed through appropriate channels, leveraging the access the region has to the President via governors and party leaders. “This opportunity may not come again,” he warned, advocating for the replication of such forums at various levels in their respective states.
In his keynote address, former Ekiti Governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi reflected on the historical struggles of the Yoruba for national political prominence. He urged the community to remain resolute amidst challenges and continue to advocate for their interests within the country’s political landscape.
Dr. Fayemi called for a united approach among political leaders in the APC, emphasizing their duty to the public, particularly in creating jobs and addressing rising insecurity. “While we take pride in our achievements since 2015, we must not become complacent. It is vital to acknowledge current issues honestly and develop a strategic plan to tackle them,” he said.
He encouraged members to learn from past experiences and mobilize efforts to restore hope among citizens, stressing the need for a committed approach to combat underdevelopment and disunity.
Other prominent attendees included Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Coordinator of the Southwest Political Caucus; Ondo State Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa; Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun; Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele; former APC Interim National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande; Chief of Staff to the President Rt Hon Femi Gbajabiamila; and former Ogun State Governor Chief Olusegun Osoba. They collectively urged the Yoruba people to exercise patience and express their grievances through their governors, assuring them of President Tinubu’s commitment to addressing their concerns.
