The Anambra State Police Command has reported that two of its officers sustained injuries while thwarting an attempted kidnapping of a foreign national on Sunday morning. The incident, believed to involve gunmen linked to secessionist groups, took place in Ogbunka village, Orumba South Local Government Area.
In a statement to the media, Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga detailed that the officers engaged in a gunfight with the assailants, successfully rescuing the VIP. Despite their injuries, the officers managed to ensure the foreigner’s safety. Currently, both are in stable condition and receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital, while police operations continue in the area to apprehend the attackers.
Ikenga also mentioned a separate incident involving a suspected cult clash in Nawfia, which was reported on October 6, 2024. Upon arrival, police found four deceased individuals with apparent gunshot wounds. The victims have been identified as Ebuka Nwaonkwube Ekenta, Nnatuanya Junior (also known as Starboy), Aniemena (aka Osama), and Ahmed Auwal. Reports suggest they were involved in criminal activities and had conflicts with rival groups.
Additionally, Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has initiated an investigation into the murder of a 17-year-old girl, Chinasa Adigwe, whose body was discovered in a bush at Omasi village. The circumstances of her death, including the removal of her private parts, have raised concerns about possible ritualistic motives. The police have assured the community that they will pursue those responsible for this heinous
crime.
