Zamfara Governor Mourns Loss of Nine Community Guards to Bandit Attack
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has expressed his sorrow following the tragic killing of nine operatives from the Community Protection Guards (CPG), a state security outfit, in Tsafe Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Sulaiman Idris, the governor confirmed that the guards were ambushed by bandits while stationed at a checkpoint near Tsafe town.
Lawal condemned the attack, labeling it a “barbaric act” carried out by bandits fleeing from ongoing military operations in the region. He praised the courage of the CPG members and other security forces for their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of residents in Zamfara.
“I have received the distressing news of an ambush in Tsafe LGA, where nine of our courageous CPG members lost their lives. This cowardly act by desperate bandits is a reflection of their disarray due to the sustained efforts of our troops across the state,” the governor stated.
He reassured the public that the state government would intensify its offensive against banditry throughout Zamfara and the surrounding areas, reiterating his administration’s dedication to restoring peace and security.
On behalf of the state government and the people of Zamfara, Lawal extended his condolences to the families of the fallen guards, emphasizing that their sacrifices would not be forgotten. He also expressed hopes for a swift recovery for those who were injured.
Additionally, the governor pledged support for the families of the deceased CPG members, ensuring that the government would stand by them during this challenging time.
In related news, security forces in Kebbi State successfully rescued nine abducted residents from bandits in the Danko Wasagu Local Government Area. Director of Security, Abdulrahman Usman Zaga, reported that a courageous team engaged the bandits in a gunfight, leading to the rescue, although one victim remains in captivity.
Zaga credited Governor Nasir Idris for consistently providing security agencies with essential resources and support. The rescued individuals were identified as Alhaji Almustapha Almu, Hajara Maikano, Rukayya Daya, Bello Daya, Fa’iza Maikano, Amina Maikano, and
Jidah Babangida.
