Reasons Lagos Government Urges Youths to Join Military

Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Secretary to the State Government, appealed to the youth of Lagos on Wednesday to consider joining the military during a quarterly meeting with the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Ikeja.
Salu-Hundeyin emphasized that national security is a collective responsibility and that serving in the military is a valuable contribution to both the state and the nation.
She expressed concern over the low participation of local youths in military recruitment, particularly highlighted during the recent enlistment drive. The Federal Government has mandated equal recruitment numbers, allocating 150 slots for each state.
“Lagos State has been significantly underrepresented in the military,” she noted, adding that the current recruitment should not be missed by indigenes.
“The military plays a crucial role in a nation’s security, which should involve everyone. While not everyone can serve in uniform, the government provides an opportunity for those willing to apply.
“Sadly, many young people in Lagos seem reluctant to pursue a military career, failing to see its importance. By not participating, we are shortchanging our state,”she stated.
