The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized former Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi for comments that it claims incite public unrest regarding Nigeria’s economic challenges.

In a recent interview with ABN TV, Amaechi expressed disappointment over the lack of visible protests against rising living costs and fuel prices, particularly among the youth.

The APC condemned his remarks as “irresponsible and unpatriotic.” In a statement released on Friday by National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, the party emphasized that such statements should not come from someone with extensive government experience.

Morka accused Amaechi of inciting unrest and suggested that his comments were hypocritical given his long involvement in governance, which has contributed to the current economic issues. He stated, “Amaechi’s rhetoric exploits the discomfort caused by necessary reforms implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.”

The APC also defended the ongoing economic reforms, asserting that they are beginning to show positive results and urged citizens to remain patient as the government works towards stability.

Additionally, the party directed its criticism at other opposition figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, implying that their discontent stems from being out of power. The statement urged Nigerians not to be swayed by what it described as provocations for political gain.

The APC remarked, “If those in power are corrupt, as Amaechi suggests, why can’t he afford essentials after so many years in leadership?” It reaffirmed its commitment to guiding Nigeria through its economic recovery and called on the public to support the government’s efforts.

Furthermore, the APC criticized Amaechi for neglecting the political turmoil in Rivers State, where he previously served as governor, saying, “He should focus on resolving local issues rather than inciting national unrest.” The party concluded by denouncing the use of protests for political objectives as both irresponsible and unpatriotic.
