Wike Warns Against Electoral Malpractice Ahead of 2027 Elections in Rivers

Nyesome Wike

With the 2027 general elections on the horizon, Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has issued a strong warning to his opponents in Rivers State.

Wike asserted that those opposing him will not be permitted to engage in electoral malpractice from the Rivers State House of Assembly during the upcoming elections. Speaking in Port Harcourt, he cautioned against any attempts to manipulate the electoral process.

“You can’t just shift blame onto others; that’s unacceptable. The political dynamics involving the APC and PDP are clear indicators of what’s to come in 2027,” Wike stated.

He emphasized, “The recent local government elections are not the same as the general elections. Do you really think we will let you take results sheets to the government house and announce figures without verification? That won’t happen in the general elections.”

Wike’s comments reflect the ongoing tensions between him and Governor Sim Fubara over control of the state, despite efforts from President Bola Tinubu to mediate the situation.
