Northern Governors and Monarchs Convene with Chief of Defence Staff Amid Rising Insecurity

In light of escalating insecurity and socio-economic challenges in Northern Nigeria, governors from the region’s 19 states held a significant meeting on Monday with Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Musa. The discussions aimed to address critical issues, including rising poverty, the increasing number of out-of-school children, and ongoing security threats.

Chaired by Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya, who also leads the Northern States Governors’ Forum, the meeting took place at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House in Kaduna, hosted by Governor Uba Sani. Attendees included governors from Kaduna, Zamfara, Nasarawa, and other Northern states, along with their deputies and traditional leaders.

General Musa provided an update on the military’s current strategies to combat banditry, terrorism, and various security challenges affecting the region. Notable traditional rulers, including the Sultan of Sokoto and the Shehu of Borno, were present, highlighting the urgent need for collaborative efforts in addressing these pressing issues.

In their opening remarks, Governors Yahaya and Sani emphasized the detrimental impact of insecurity on the economic landscape of Northern Nigeria, advocating for united action to restore stability and promote development throughout the region.
