Akume: Tinubu’s Solutions Can’t End Hardship Overnight

President Bola Tinubu has acknowledged the difficult economic conditions Nigerians are currently facing, emphasizing that while the government is aware of the challenges, immediate solutions are not realistic.

Speaking on behalf of the president at a service celebrating Pastor Tunde Bakare’s 70th birthday at The Citadel in Lagos, George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, assured that while the nation is experiencing economic difficulties, progress is being made.

“The President understands the hardships Nigerians are enduring,” Akume said, “but he believes that even in difficult times, there is always hope on the horizon.”

He went on to explain that solving complex issues takes time, noting, “Real solutions don’t come as quickly as making a cup of coffee, but rest assured, we are heading in the right direction.”

The current economic strain is largely attributed to recent policy changes, such as the removal of the fuel subsidy and the liberalization of the Naira’s exchange rate—moves the government argues are necessary for long-term economic recovery.

In his tribute to Pastor Bakare, President Tinubu praised the cleric for his unwavering commitment to justice and his role as a champion of the underprivileged. “Pastor Bakare, known affectionately as P.T.B., has always been a voice for the voiceless and a source of hope in society,” Tinubu said.

Several dignitaries, including Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun, also attended the event, paying tribute to Bakare’s significant impact on both the political and spiritual spheres of the nation.
