Lagos Group Rejects Youth Minister’s Endorsement of Seyi Tinubu for 2027 Gubernatorial Election

The De Renaissance Patriots Foundation, a group of Lagosians, on Tuesday criticized the recent remarks made by the Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, suggesting that Seyi Tinubu is a suitable candidate to lead Lagos State in 2027.

In a statement released by the group’s media office, they condemned the Minister’s comments as irresponsible, asserting that they do not reflect the views of the people of Lagos State.

The statement read: “We were once again drawn to the recent media interview where the Youth Minister claimed that Seyi Tinubu is qualified to lead Lagos State. We strongly disagree with this careless statement, which represents only his personal opinion and not the collective stance of Lagosians across the state’s five divisions—Epe, Lagos, Badagry, Ikeja, and Ikorodu.”

The group further emphasized that Seyi Tinubu has no roots in any of the divisions of Lagos State, declaring: “Mr. Seyi Tinubu does not hail from any of the five divisions of Lagos State, nor can he claim any ancestral ties to the region. Simply put, Seyi Tinubu is not from Lagos.”

The group stressed that, as Lagos youth, they are capable of governing their state without relying on outsiders, and firmly opposed the idea of Seyi Tinubu running for governor. “We believe that any state that values Mr. Seyi Tinubu’s leadership qualities is welcome to have him. However, as capable youths of Lagos, we reject the notion of him governing our state.”

The statement also pointed to the influence of some elders, who they claimed have sold out to the current government, and warned against any further efforts to impose Seyi Tinubu on Lagos. “We are aware that some elders have compromised their positions for personal gain, and while they may be seeking their own benefit, we stand firm in our opposition to any attempt to sell out Lagos State.”

The group concluded by advising Seyi Tinubu to reconsider any plans to run for governor and suggested that he explore other states, such as Osun or Oyo, where his mother comes from. “Lagos State is no longer a place where such decisions are made without the voice of its people. We have more than enough sons and daughters to take on the leadership role. Lagos is not a monarchy, and we are not interested in imperial rule.”
