Kano Police Bust Mobile Phone Theft Ring, Arrest Six Suspects

The Kano State Police Command has apprehended six individuals suspected of involvement in a series of mobile phone thefts within the Kano Metropolis.

The arrests, which occurred between January 11 and 15, 2025, resulted in the recovery of 15 stolen mobile phones and two operational tricycles.

 

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the operation was carried out by officers from the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) of the Criminal Investigation Department. Acting on reliable intelligence, the squad targeted known criminal hideouts and areas of high crime activity across the city.

 

The suspects, identified as Bashir Isah, Isyaku Bala, Mudansir Ayuba, Muzambil Abdullahi, Ibrahim Mohammed, and Hassan Sagir, all admitted their involvement in the thefts. They revealed that they had been posing as tricycle riders to steal mobile phones from unsuspecting passengers.

 

Recovered items include two tricycles with the registration numbers KBT-850WZ and DAL-113WZ, along with the 15 mobile phones believed to have been stolen.

 

Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Garba, commended the officers for their professionalism and acknowledged the vital role of the public’s cooperation in the operation’s success.
