Meet UNILAG’s 5.0 CGPA Top Graduates: Samuel Badekale and Damilare Adebakin Shine Bright

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) celebrated its 2023/2024 convocation, honoring the remarkable achievements of its best graduates. Among the standout stars were Samuel Akinade Badekale and Damilare Haroun Adebakin, both from the Department of Cell Biology and Genetics (CBG), who graduated with a perfect CGPA of 5.0, earning them the titles of Overall Best Graduating Student and Best Graduating Student in the Sciences, respectively.

Their achievements are a powerful reminder that dreams can indeed come true. Samuel’s success reflects not just academic excellence but a commitment to making a difference in his community. Alongside his studies, Samuel co-founded the Student Mental Awareness initiative (SMA) at UNILAG in 2022. The project partnered with the UNILAG Counselling Unit, organizing programs to raise mental health awareness among students.

Samuel also made history by being licensed to host the inaugural TEDxIdiAraba event, creating a platform for inspiring stories of resilience and innovation within the Idi Araba community. Outside of academics, he was actively involved in sports as the coach of his level’s football team, leading them to victory in the HOD Cup and Departmental All-Star Cup.

Moreover, Samuel played a key role as Chief Editor for the department’s yearbook, Bioscope, reviving the publication after six years of dormancy and successfully raising 50% of the required budget through sponsorship. His service extended beyond academics and leadership, with his active involvement in his church, where he served as the Teens and Children President and later as the Bible Study HOD at RCCG Place of His Presence.

Samuel’s journey stands as a testament to the power of hard work, dedication, and a well-rounded approach to life at UNILAG.

Both Samuel and Damilare’s outstanding accomplishments at UNILAG demonstrate that academic excellence, leadership, and community involvement can go hand in hand, inspiring future generations to follow in their footsteps.
