Anambra Village Denies Monarch’s Statement Regarding Vigilante Group Representation
The Anaofia-Etiti Welfare Association, which represents the Anaofia-Etiti village in Enugwu-Agidi, Anambra State, has publicly rejected recent statements made by the traditional ruler of the area, Igwe Mike Okekeuche, concerning the appointment of Chukwudi Tansi as a representative in the Enugwu-Agidi Vigilante Group.
Igwe Okekeuche had claimed that Tansi was nominated by the village, but the Welfare Association, in a formal response signed by Chairman Ozo Nonso Ifebunso and Secretary Chinedu Mmuo Ututu, labeled the assertion as “false.” The statement clarified that Tansi was neither appointed nor endorsed by Anaofia-Etiti for the position in question.
The statement reads:
“We wish to inform the public, especially the people of Enugwu-Agidi, that Chukwudi Tansi was never nominated or appointed as Anaofia-Etiti’s representative in the Enugwu-Agidi vigilante group.”
“This clarification comes in response to a misleading narrative spread by Ichie Ifeanyi Ndulue, the Chief Press Secretary to Igwe Mike Okekeuche, on February 4, 2025, claiming that Anaofia-Etiti had ‘screened and nominated’ Chukwudi Tansi for this role. In truth, Tansi’s appointment was made solely by Igwe Mike Okekeuche, without consulting the people of Anaofia-Etiti.”
The Enugwu-Agidi community has recently been under scrutiny, with its President-General, Ebuka Onuorah, accusing Igwe Okekeuche of having ties to a kidnap suspect who was recently apprehended.
The arrest of Chukwudi Tansi, a suspected kidnapper and member of the Enugwu-Agidi Vigilante Group, has intensified tensions within the community. The involvement of the Igwe in the matter continues to spark controversy and unrest, as highlighted by the latest statement from the Anaofia-Etiti Welfare Association.
