Kwankwaso Condemns Edo Killings, Calls for Justice

Former Kano State Governor and leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has strongly condemned the recent killings of 16 Northern travelers in Edo State. The tragic incident, which took place in the Udune Efandion community of Uromi, has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice.

Kwankwaso’s Reaction

In his statement, Kwankwaso expressed deep concern over the attack, emphasizing that every Nigerian has the right to travel freely without fear of harassment or violence. He described the killings as a grave injustice that must not go unpunished.

“The gruesome killing of these innocent travelers is not only barbaric but also a direct threat to our unity as a nation. No Nigerian should be subjected to such brutality while moving from one part of the country to another,” Kwankwaso stated.

He called on security agencies and the Edo State Government to launch a thorough investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible. He stressed that swift action is necessary to prevent further incidents of jungle justice and mob violence in the country.

Details of the Attack

Reports indicate that the victims, who were hunters traveling from Rivers State to Kano for the Sallah celebrations, were attacked by local vigilante members and armed youths. The assailants allegedly stopped their vehicle, dragged them out, and accused them of being kidnappers. After beating them, they were set ablaze in a shocking act of mob violence.

The brutal nature of the killings has left many Nigerians in shock, with civil society organizations and political leaders demanding accountability. Amnesty International and other rights groups have also called for an independent probe into the incident.

Call for National Unity and Justice

Kwankwaso emphasized that such acts of violence threaten the peace and stability of Nigeria. He urged leaders across political, religious, and ethnic divides to work together in promoting unity and tolerance.

“This is not about ethnicity or religion; it is about justice and human dignity. We must all stand together to condemn this act and ensure that justice is served,” he said.

He extended his condolences to the families of the victims, the Kano State Government, and other affected states. He also called on the federal government to implement stronger measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Conclusion

The killings in Edo State have once again highlighted the dangers of mob violence and the urgent need for better law enforcement. As investigations continue, Nigerians are watching closely to see if justice will be served. Kwankwaso’s statement adds to the growing calls for accountability, reinforcing the need for a united response against such act

s of brutality.
