Train Attack Survivor Recounts Unexpected Meeting with Former Kidnaper at Kaduna Mosque

By Mohammed I. Yaba

Comrade M. B. Muhammad, a survivor of the 2022 Kaduna-bound train abduction, has shared a remarkable account of unexpectedly encountering one of his former kidnappers at a mosque in Kaduna.

He revealed that the meeting occurred recently at Shema Mosque, located near Bakin Ruwa Junction in the Rigasa area of Igabi Local Government, during Isha’i prayers.

Muhammad identified the man as Abubakar, expressing shock at seeing him in the mosque. In a post on social media, he wrote, “After the Isha’i prayer last night at Shema Mosque, just as the imam concluded, I came face-to-face with one of the men who had kidnapped us during the March 28, 2022, Abuja-Kaduna train attack.”

According to Muhammad, Abubakar claimed to have renounced terrorism and is now working as a motorcycle taxi rider. “We spoke at length. He said some of the other abductors have died, while others continue their activities. I forgave him and even gave him some charity after seeing the condition he was in,” he added. “May God guide us all.”

A Daily Trust reporter later visited Comrade Muhammad at his office in Kaduna, where he confirmed the account shared in his social media post.
