Tragedy in Benue State: Suspected Herdsmen Attack Leaves Eight Dead in Jootar, Ukum LGA

A fresh wave of violence has rocked Benue State as suspected Fulani herdsmen launched a deadly attack on the peaceful community of Jootar in Ukum Local Government Area. Early this morning, residents awoke to the grim discovery of multiple bodies in nearby bushes—evidence of yet another brutal assault.

Despite the presence of at least four security checkpoints within a 30-minute drive of Jootar, the attackers were able to operate with impunity, raising serious questions about the effectiveness of local security measures and the safety of rural communities in the area.

The victims, all from the Mbaterem community, have been identified as:

1. Jonathan Ordooga

2. Aondogu Torse

3. Cheater Torse

4. Yagba Torse

5. Tersugh Mbaaiiga

6. Terhemen Emmanuel

7. Henenshima Apirgwa

8. Orfega Atuku

These eight lives were tragically cut short in an act of violence that has left families devastated and the entire region in mourning.

This heartbreaking incident underscores the urgent need for stronger security intervention in Benue and renewed efforts toward peace and justice for affected communities.May the departed rest in peace.
