Zamfara Lawmaker Raises Alarm: Bandits Allegedly Feeding Infants to Dogs
Aminu Jaji, a member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives representing Kaura-Namoda/Birnin Magaji Federal Constituency in Zamfara State, has voiced grave concerns over the escalating insecurity in his region. In a harrowing address to the media at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, Jaji accused armed groups of committing horrific acts, including the alleged killing of newborns in captivity.
He recounted a chilling incident involving a pregnant woman who was kidnapped and gave birth while in captivity. According to Jaji, the leader of the gang reportedly fed the newborn twins to his dogs.
Describing the situation as dire, the visibly shaken lawmaker urged immediate and decisive action. “This is beyond alarming. We must confront this crisis collectively. It’s a moral and national emergency,” he said.
Jaji pushed back against suggestions that Nigeria should hire foreign mercenaries to deal with terrorists, expressing confidence in the capabilities of the country’s military—provided they are adequately supported and equipped.
“I strongly believe that our armed forces are up to the task. What we need is better funding, proper oversight, and the integration of modern technology into our security operations,” he said. “Rather than outsourcing our defense, we should empower our soldiers and ensure their welfare is prioritized.”
He also dismissed proposals to declare a state of emergency in Zamfara, recommending instead a more strategic and tech-driven approach to security operations.
Jaji detailed the scale of the crisis in his constituency, revealing that over 200 people have been abducted. “In Banga, 60 residents were kidnapped recently. Ten were killed when the community couldn’t meet the N30 million ransom. Days later, 25 more were taken in Gabake. Just yesterday, Kungurki was also attacked,” he lamented.
He concluded by warning that many communities in Zamfara have fallen under the effective control of bandit groups, who now operate with near-total impunity. Jaji also questioned whether President Bola Tinubu is being properly briefed on the true extent of the crisis in the North-West.
