Controversy Erupts as Pastor Declares Women Who Wear Leg Chains Are Prōstitutes

Pastor David Ibiyeomie, founder of Salvation Ministries, has strongly criticized what he views as a rise in indecent dressing among young women, particularly condemning the trend of wearing leg chains.

Speaking during the fourth service at the church’s headquarters, Ibiyeomie cautioned women against blindly following modern fashion trends, warning that some styles carry meanings that contradict Christian values.

“Many of you chase fashion without understanding its origins or implications,” he said, as quoted in a post by Church Times Nigeria on X (formerly Twitter).

He took particular aim at leg chains, claiming they symbolized prostitution. “Wearing a chain on your leg means, ‘I’m available for sex.’ That’s the original message it sends,” he declared. “It’s not just fashion—it’s a signal, a form of advertisement for immorality.”

Ibiyeomie urged Christian women to uphold modesty and avoid styles that compromise their values. He also condemned revealing clothing, especially outfits that expose private areas or undergarments, saying such trends reflect a moral decline.

“You expose your body and then complain about harassment,” he said. “Transparent clothes, exposed breasts—this is not how believers should present themselves.”

He concluded by reinforcing the idea that personal appearance shapes perception. “How you dress determines how people will treat you,” he emphasized.

This is not the first time Pastor Ibiyeomie has stirred controversy with his views. In April, he faced backlash for claiming that Jesus avoided the poor, asserting that Christ never visited the home of a poor person during His ministry because He “hated poverty.”

His recent comments have once again sparked debate, with some praising his firm stance on morality, while others question the tone and implications of his statements.
