Suicide Bomber Dies in Attempted Attack, Two Injured at Abuja Military Barracks
A suspected suicide bomber was killed on Monday during a failed attempt to enter the Mogadishu Cantonment in Abuja. According to a statement released by the Army Garrison, the incident occurred at approximately 2:34 p.m.
The suspect, who was carrying an improvised explosive device (IED), reportedly exited a Golf vehicle near the pedestrian bridge close to a military checkpoint—an area where passengers typically disembark before entering the barracks via tricycles (keke).
Security personnel became suspicious of the individual’s movements and requested he step back for proper identification. As he moved a few meters away, the device detonated, killing him on the spot and injuring two bystanders. The injured are currently receiving medical attention at the Defence Medical Centre.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from the Nigeria Police quickly arrived to secure and inspect the area. The remains of the bomber have been taken for further investigation.
