Tensions Escalate in Osun APC as Omowaiye Responds to Ayekooto Akindele’s Remarks

Tensions Escalate in Osun APC as Omowaiye Responds to Ayekooto Akindele’s Remarks

Remi Omowaiye

A growing internal rift within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has taken center stage on social media following a contentious Facebook post by Ayekooto Akindele — a prominent online commentator and known supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Akindele, who appears to align himself with Senator Ajibola Basiru (popularly called “Alubarika”), a gubernatorial hopeful, raised concerns about alleged dissent among some Osun APC members.

In his post, Akindele alleged that certain elements within the APC were launching subtle attacks on President Tinubu. He stated:

> “There are people in Osun APC who are clearly panicking. They’ve now turned their frustration toward President Tinubu — the very person who empowered their leaders. Whether they cry for eternity or not, if APC embraces Governor Adeleke, there’s nothing they can do. As I’ve advised before, their best option is to form a coalition — maybe then they can get Tinubu’s attention, who they now brand a villain.”

This sparked immediate backlash, particularly from Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, the Executive Director of Project Implementation at the Federal Ministry of Housing and a key supporter of Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO). Omowaiye strongly refuted the idea that APC members in Osun would ever insult President Tinubu.

In his detailed rebuttal, Omowaiye wrote:

> “Brother, let me be clear: no one in Osun APC has insulted President Tinubu — and no one dares to. If you have proof, bring it forward. What we are resisting is the integration of the Adeleke family into Osun APC. We cannot forget the bloodshed and political violence in the lead-up to the 2023 elections, during which over 30 APC supporters were killed, including Saheed Oyegunju, Ebenezer Alaro, and Tunde Ejoka.”

Omowaiye detailed the tragic incidents, citing Oyegunju’s abduction and murder in Ikire, Alaro’s execution-style killing in Ilesa East, and Ejoka’s brutal death in Ijebu-Ijesha. He emphasized that their only “crime” was showing open support for Tinubu.

> “These lives were lost not for personal gain, but in defense of Tinubu’s mandate. Should their killers now be rewarded with political relevance? No. Osun APC will succeed in 2026 without the Adeleke camp.”

He added that Adeleke’s entry into the APC wouldn’t change the tide in their favor, labeling the governor’s performance as “the worst in Nigeria.”

> “Roads he constructs are washed away within days. He randomly sacks teachers and doctors without replacements. Tinubu celebrates competence — not mediocrity.”

In response, Ayekooto Akindele doubled down on his claims, asserting that some APC youth were already criticizing Tinubu online, allegedly on the orders of party leaders.

> “Let’s speak for ourselves. There’s a video online, and another party chieftain recently said Osun APC isn’t for sale — just 48 hours after Adeleke met Tinubu. Are you saying you missed that too?”

Omowaiye maintained his stance, clarifying that a press conference addressing Adeleke’s aspirations had been misinterpreted.

> “That press conference was about the misuse of Amotekun and the idea of Adeleke receiving the APC governorship ticket — not an attack on Tinubu.”

Akindele later asked Omowaiye directly how he would respond if Tinubu endorsed Adeleke’s defection. Omowaiye replied diplomatically:

> “Asiwaju is our leader, and we trust his judgment. If Adeleke joins APC, perhaps he may be offered a senatorial ticket, but definitely not the governorship. He simply doesn’t have the record to back that ambition. Unlike Governors Sheriff Oborevwori or Umo Eno — whom we celebrated for performance — Adeleke has failed in every measurable way.”

Omowaiye ended with a firm declaration of loyalty:

“This is APC, not PDP. We value competence. Whatever PBAT (P

resident Bola Ahmed Tinubu) says, we will follow.”
