Osun LG: Oyebamiji warns against use of Amotekun to takeover the councils

Bola Oyebamiji

• Says Appeal Court revalidates APC reinstatement

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and leading aspirant in the 2026 governorship election, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) has stated that the Friday’s ruling delivered by the Court of Appeal in Akure is a strong revalidation of the court’s earlier judgment reinstating local government chairmen elected under the platform of the APC, cautioning the state government against using Amotekun Corps to forcefully take-over the local government structures on Monday.

Oyebamiji, who is also the MD/CEO of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), said this in a statement signed by him on Saturday, warning that the misleading commentary being shared by the handlers of Governor Ademola Adeleke is capable of inciting the public against the duly elected local government executives who since February have been conducting the affairs of the local councils following the judgement of 10th February, 2025, which backed their return to office.

He said “whereas I have not read the Certified True Copy of the ruling which would, of course, give room for more informed view, the live coverage of the ruling via Zoom which I followed passionately coupled with the feedback from the erudite legal representatives of our party indicated that even though the Court declined the application to relist a sister case delivered on 13th January, 2025, the Honourable Justice J.C Obiora, JCA, did reference the fact that the February 10, 2025 judgement of the same court which reinstated our chairmen and councilors is sacred, binding and valid, therefore can not be discussed or sat over by the court.”

Oyebamiji clarified that the ruling was strictly about relisting procedure and had nothing to do with the judgement of February 10 which ordered the return of the APC-led chairmen to the local council, as it is being touted by the officials of the state government.

“The Court in its wisdom believed that relisting of the APP case would lure it to review the February 10 judgement that favoured our party, an exercise it believed would taint the sanctity of the said judgment thus leading to confusion. The import of the statement is that the PDP Government has reached the end of the road to regain the control of the local administration in the state since its opportunity to approach the Supreme Court to vent its anger on the February 10 judgement has elapsed.

Oyebamiji saluted the members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun for their maturity and good conduct in the face of provocation, assuring them that no forces, political or otherwise, can clinch the local government affairs from the duly reinstated APC chieftains.

He reminded the governor that the primary responsibility of any government is security of life and property, urging the governor to be statesmanly in discharging this responsibility by not setting the state on needless violence as experienced on February 17th, 2025 when Hon Remi Abass, former Chairman of Irewole Local Government, was murdered in broad daylight.
