2027: Ribadu Cautions Opposition Against Underestimating Tinubu’s Leadership

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

ABUJA — National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has issued a strong message to critics of President Bola Tinubu, urging them not to misjudge his capacity to lead and transform Nigeria. Ribadu emphasized that Tinubu represents a modern, forward-thinking leadership style, warning that those who dismiss his presidency are clinging to outdated ideologies and past failures.

“We now have a capable and tech-savvy leader at the helm. Anyone who chooses to overlook his potential does so at their own risk,” Ribadu asserted.

His comments came amidst controversy sparked by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which accused the Tinubu administration of fabricating allegations about an attempted coup, suggesting it was a tactic to suppress dissent and opposition voices.

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, also stirred debate by alleging that some high-ranking members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including certain governors, are covertly backing the opposition coalition.

Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory, added to the tension by revealing that although she remains in the Labour Party, she is now collaborating with the opposition under the ADC banner.

“In a democracy, party affiliation doesn’t have to limit your choice. If you see a more capable candidate in another party, you should be free to support them,” Kingibe explained. “APC set this example—staying in one party while working for another’s success. Wike has taken this political model to another level.”

Babachir Lawal criticized the internal dynamics of the APC, describing the party as fractured and intolerant of dissent. He expressed frustration with the current state of affairs, claiming that speaking truth within the party is often labeled as anti-party behavior.

He further argued that President Tinubu’s governance has alienated many of his former allies, prompting them to explore new political alignments in pursuit of more effective leadership.

“Many of us are motivated by the need for a better Nigeria. If that requires replacing this administration with one that genuinely serves the people, then that’s the direction we must take,” Lawal stated.

Commenting on recent defections to the APC, Lawal claimed the moves were more about securing political survival than genuine support for the ruling party.

“Governors are defecting not because of mass approval, but because the president has effectively secured his 2027 ticket—there will be no internal contest. Other hopefuls have been sidelined,” he alleged.
