ADC Says Tinubu Will Be Voted Out, Not Removed by Force

On Wednesday, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) declared that President Bola Tinubu’s tenure will end at the ballot box, not by force.
The party rejected claims suggesting that the opposition intends to undermine Nigeria’s democracy.
Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, accused President Tinubu of setting the stage for a crackdown on opposition figures.
His statement came in reaction to a tweet by Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, who alleged a plot by the opposition to depose the President.
Onanuga claimed that opposition forces had conspired to topple Tinubu’s government.
Abdullahi dismissed these allegations as baseless and irresponsible.
In an official release, Abdullahi argued that Onanuga’s tweet reflects an attempt by the Tinubu administration to intimidate and suppress political opponents.
He emphasized that ADC is committed to pursuing democratic channels to remove Tinubu from power, not by force.
The statement read in part:
“ADC condemns the tweet from President Tinubu’s aide, Onanuga, which accuses the opposition of planning to overthrow the government before 2027. If anything, this rhetoric risks paving the way for systematic oppression of opposition leaders.
The ADC is not interested in undermining democracy; our focus is on rescuing the country from the failures of the current administration. We are politicians, not soldiers.
Our tools are not bullets, but ballots. When the time comes, we will present Nigerians with viable solutions and a vision for the future, allowing the people to decide.”
