Lagos Shuts Down Lekki Club Over Noise Pollution, Arrest Five People

Authorities in Lagos have sealed off the Light House Club on Admiralty Way in Lekki for allegedly breaching environmental regulations related to noise pollution. The enforcement action was carried out on Monday by a combined task force from the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) and the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA).

This was disclosed by the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, through posts shared on his official social media account.

Wahab stated that the club had repeatedly ignored official warnings regarding excessive noise levels. He emphasized that the closure will remain in place until the establishment complies fully with environmental requirements, including the installation of soundproof systems and verification by LASEPA that noise emissions are within acceptable limits.

“Our environmental standards are not to be taken lightly. Entertainment businesses must respect the rights of residents to a quiet and healthy environment,” Wahab warned.

In a separate enforcement effort the same day, five individuals were apprehended in Ikorodu for engaging in public urination—a violation of the state’s sanitation laws. The arrests were made by officers of the Environmental Sanitation Corps during routine monitoring of public hygiene practices.

The Commissioner reiterated the state government’s zero-tolerance stance on environmental abuse and urged Lagosians to adhere to sanitation and pollution control laws for the well-being of all.
