PDP Cautions Members: Backing Tinubu for 2027 Violates Party Rules

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong warning to its members, stating that public endorsements of President Bola Tinubu’s potential 2027 re-election bid are against the party’s principles and will be treated as acts of disloyalty.

In a statement released Friday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, expressed concern over recent declarations of support for President Tinubu by some senior party members. He emphasized that such endorsements pose a significant risk to the party’s unity and violate its constitution.

“It is deeply troubling that certain prominent members have taken to the media to openly support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections,” Ologunagba stated. “Such conduct breaches the PDP Constitution (amended in 2017) and undermines the collective interest of the party.”

This response comes after public expressions of support for Tinubu by figures such as Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory; former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose; and some members of the PDP caucus in Osun State.

Referring to Section 10(6) of the PDP Constitution, the party reminded its members that undermining the PDP or working in favour of rival parties is strictly prohibited. The statement added that such behaviour contributes to internal divisions and weakens the party’s structure.

The PDP leadership urged all members to remain committed to the party’s goals and avoid actions that could damage its prospects ahead of the 2027 elections.
