Obidient Movement Unveils Campaign to Curb Election Rigging

The Obidient Movement has launched a new national initiative aimed at enhancing citizen engagement and protecting the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process. The campaign, titled “Get Organised – Make Election Rigging Difficult (MERD),” was officially introduced during a press briefing in Abuja by the movement’s National Coordinator, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, alongside other key leaders.
Dr. Yunusa highlighted the campaign’s central mission: to ensure that every eligible Nigerian obtains their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) and becomes an active participant in the democratic process.
“Our objective is simple but powerful — to drive civic engagement across the country,” he said. “At each polling unit, we aim to organize or be part of voter blocs of at least 100 individuals, all with valid PVCs. This means door-to-door outreach, direct support for voter registration, and encouraging principled Nigerians to contest elections under our banner.”
As part of the initiative, the Obidient Movement also plans to mobilize a robust network of election defenders — up to one million trained volunteers — to monitor polling units and safeguard the vote. Advanced technology will play a critical role, enabling real-time monitoring and reporting to ensure transparency.
Yunusa added that the movement will identify and support 1,500 ethical and competent candidates to run for office, forming a new wave of leadership built on accountability and public service.
Through MERD, the Obidient Movement hopes to make electoral malpractice increasingly difficult, while promoting a more informed, engaged, and empowered electorate.
