The Call for Support
Speaking on behalf of the Oriade delegation, Hon. Rasaq passionately appealed to the Obokun leaders to support Chief Ilesanmi, whom he described as a “son of the soil.” He praised Ilesanmi as a humble, capable youth with a proven track record in leadership and service, and emphasised the need for the party to rally behind competent young candidates.
Amb. Chief Olaniyi Ilesanmi’s Address
Amb. Chief Olaniyi Ilesanmi expressed deep gratitude to the leaders for their warm reception. He formally declared his intention to contest for the Senate seat representing Osun East Senatorial District under the APC.
In his address, he highlighted his professional background, having served as Commercial Manager at Forte Oil and Business Development Manager at BOVAS Oil & Gas. He shared how key industry leaders, including Dr. Victoria Adunola Samson (Mama BOVAS) and Mr. Femi Otedola, CEO of Forte Oil PLC, had prayed for his success in this political journey, acknowledging the positive impact of his service on their companies.
He also discussed his current role as Business Director for Africa at KingSSC in the UAE, emphasising that his vast network in the oil and gas industry would be instrumental in bringing investment opportunities to Osun East.
He recalled his role during a critical period of fuel scarcity in Osun, when he ensured regular fuel supply at official pump prices while at BOVAS.
Quoting him:
“I’m not vying for Senate for selfish interests or to chase power. I’m doing this for you, my fathers, mothers, friends, and younger ones, because we have untapped resources in Osun East that should be working for us. Recently, my managing director came to Nigeria with investors looking for where to invest, and I told them: Osun East is the place
He explained that with the right policies and support, every local government in Osun East could generate revenue and create jobs. He noted that market women, traders, and farmers would see an increase in income through structured investments and infrastructure development.
Ilesanmi identified agriculture as a major priority, proposing the establishment of branches of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Osun East, similar to the one in Ibadan. According to him, this would improve the yield of cash crops like cocoa and make farming more profitable.
He also revealed plans to attract food processing companies to reduce post-harvest waste and create employment for youths—thereby curbing hooliganism and restiveness.
On electricity, he proposed harnessing Osun East’s natural waterfalls for hydropower generation, which would not only improve power supply across the district but also boost tourism and development.
Reactions from APC Leaders
Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a respected voice within the party, commended the aspirant and advised him to focus on legislative advocacy, especially bill sponsorship, to bring his vision to life. He also offered prayers for his success.
Hon. Tunji Adesokun congratulated Oriade LG for presenting a young and intelligent candidate, stating that Chief Ilesanmi’s ideas reflect a deep understanding of local challenges and practical solutions.
Prof. Siji Olamiju encouraged him to stay committed to his vision and assured him of support from progressive-minded leaders.
To further support the electoral process, Chief Ilesanmi pledged financial assistance to help party members secure their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and ensure increased participation in the upcoming elections. He also donated an undisclosed amount to the leaders present.
The consultation meeting marked another major milestone in Amb. Chief Olaniyi Ilesanmi’s outreach efforts as he continues to build momentum ahead of the APC primaries. With a strong mix of youthful energy, industry experience, and a clear vision for development, many see him as a rising star within the APC and a formidable contender for the Osun East Senate seat.
