INEC Must Get It Right in 2027, PDP Declares
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong caution to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stressing that the 2027 general elections must be free of excuses, glitches, or credibility concerns.
In a statement released on Monday, the opposition party emphasized that Nigerians are increasingly impatient with repeated electoral shortcomings, noting that the upcoming polls will serve as a defining moment for the nation’s democracy.
According to the PDP, INEC has more than enough time to perfect its systems, strengthen the use of technology, and ensure transparency in every stage of the electoral process. The party maintained that the commission cannot afford the kind of lapses that characterized previous elections, which undermined public confidence and raised questions about the integrity of the democratic system.
“The 2027 elections must not be business as usual. Nigerians demand nothing less than a credible, transparent, and efficient process. INEC has no excuse for failure,” the statement read.
The PDP also urged the electoral body to prioritize early preparations, training of staff, and proper deployment of technology to avoid technical glitches and logistical challenges that could disenfranchise voters. It stressed that the legitimacy of the next government rests squarely on the credibility of the polls.
Furthermore, the party called on civil society groups, the media, and the international community to remain vigilant and hold INEC accountable as the country prepares for another crucial democratic exercise.
“The world is watching, and Nigerians will not tolerate manipulations or administrative failures in 2027. INEC must rise to the occasion,” the PDP declared.
The opposition party concluded by reaffirming its readiness to fully participate in the elections, while demanding that the electoral umpire guarantees a level playing field for all pol
itical parties.
