APC Bars Kayode Ojo from Ekiti Governorship Primary, Dissolves Enugu State Executive
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has excluded Engr. Kayode Ojo, a notable governorship aspirant, from participating in its upcoming primary election in Ekiti State. The development, insiders say, could significantly tilt the race in favour of the incumbent, Governor Abiodun Oyebanji.
This decision emerged from a meeting of the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) held on Thursday, where the party reviewed the screening panel’s report on aspirants for the governorship ticket.
Ojo’s disqualification follows the earlier removal of another contender, Olajumoke Olawuni, further narrowing the race. As it stands, only Governor Oyebanji and Omolayo Oluremi have been cleared to contest in the primaries.
A seasoned political figure and businessman, Kayode Ojo previously contested in the 2018 governorship election under the APC banner and has had a history of challenging internal party structures in Ekiti. His strained relationship with the party’s hierarchy has been well documented.
“This decision is less about technical disqualification and more about maintaining internal party cohesion,” a source within the APC disclosed, suggesting the leadership is aiming to avoid intra-party divisions that have previously hurt the party’s chances in Ekiti.
Meanwhile, in another significant move, the APC NWC has dissolved its State Executive Committee in Enugu. The shake-up is widely interpreted as a strategic move to facilitate the expected defection of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
These developments mark a critical phase for the APC as it positions itself ahead of key elections and seeks to consolidate power in politically sensitive states.
