Buba Marwa Vows Firestorm: “My Second Term at NDLEA Will Be Hell for Drug Cartels”

Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd), Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has issued a powerful warning to drug barons and trafficking syndicates across the country as he begins his second term in office. Marwa, renowned for spearheading one of the most aggressive drug-control reforms in Nigeria’s history, declared that the coming years will usher in a “firestorm” against criminal networks fueling the nation’s drug crisis.

Speaking shortly after resuming his renewed mandate, Marwa reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to dismantling drug cartels, blocking trafficking routes, and expanding rehabilitation support for victims of drug abuse. According to him, his second tenure will be marked by intensified operations, smarter intelligence gathering, and unprecedented collaboration with both local and international partners.

A Renewed Mandate, A Tougher Resolve

Marwa emphasized that his return to the agency is not a ceremonial extension but a continuation of a national duty that demands courage, discipline, and consistency. He stressed that drug traffickers should expect “a season of heat” as the NDLEA upgrades its technological capabilities and tightens surveillance around critical hotspots.

“This second term will be hell for drug cartels. Anyone involved in trafficking, production, or distribution should know that the NDLEA is coming harder, smarter, and faster,” he warned.

Under his previous tenure, the NDLEA recorded record-breaking seizures, thousands of arrests, and the destruction of large-scale drug farms. Marwa made it clear that the next phase will push the boundaries even further.

Raising the Bar on Enforcement and Prevention

The NDLEA boss outlined several key areas the agency will prioritize, including:

Enhanced Border Security: Strengthening checkpoints and deploying cutting-edge surveillance technologies.

Higher-Level Prosecutions: Targeting financiers and kingpins rather than just foot soldiers.

Stronger Community Engagement: Expanding anti-drug campaigns and introducing youth-focused interventions.

Rehabilitation and Reintegration: Establishing more treatment centers and improving access to counseling.

Marwa noted that tackling drug abuse requires a balance between forceful enforcement and compassionate rehabilitation. He reaffirmed that the agency’s long-term goal is not only to jail offenders but also to rescue addicts and reintegrate them as productive citizens.

A Call to Action for Nigerians

He also urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, stressing that combating drug trafficking is a collective responsibility. He praised security agencies, state governments, and international partners who have supported NDLEA operations, pledging deeper collaboration in the years ahead.

As Buba Marwa settles into his second tenure, expectations are high. With his renewed energy, strategic reforms, and uncompromising stance, Nigeria’s anti-drug war appears set to enter its fiercest

and most transformative phase yet.
