Federal High Court Debunks Rumours: No Assassination Attempt on Justice Omotosho

The Federal High Court has firmly dismissed widespread rumours alleging an assassination attempt on Justice James Omotosho, describing the claims as false, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary panic within the judiciary and the nation at large.

The clarification came after a wave of posts circulated online, suggesting that the judge—known for presiding over several sensitive and high-profile cases—was the target of a violent attack. According to the court’s management, no such incident occurred, and Justice Omotosho remains safe, well, and fully engaged in his judicial duties.

In an official statement, the Federal High Court urged the public to disregard the unfounded reports, noting that the misinformation appeared orchestrated to incite fear or distort ongoing judicial processes. The court emphasised that the safety and security of judicial officers remain a top priority, with adequate measures already in place to protect judges across its divisions.

The court also warned against the growing trend of spreading unverified claims, particularly those targeting key institutions. It noted that such rumours not only erode public trust but can also disrupt the administration of justice by creating unnecessary tension around judges performing their constitutional responsibilities.

Observers believe the rumour may have stemmed from recent high-stakes cases handled by Justice Omotosho, but the court insists that attempts to sensationalise routine judicial activities are counterproductive.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, the Federal High Court encouraged citizens and media practitioners to rely on official channels for accurate information and avoid amplifying reports that could jeopardise national stability or the integrity of the judiciary.

With this statement, the court aims to put an end to the speculation and reassure Nigerians that Justice Omotosho continues his work without threat, fear, or intimidation.
