Soldier Beat Ogun Resident as Video Sparks Public Outrage

A troubling incident of alleged military assault has been reported in Ogun State, where a soldier was seen physically attacking a civilian in broad daylight. Witnesses recount that the altercation started from a minor disagreement, but quickly escalated as the uniformed officer repeatedly beat the resident, leaving him badly injured.

Locals who attempted to report the case say they were met with resistance at the nearby police station. According to their accounts, officers appeared reluctant to take action, allegedly attempting to shield the soldier from arrest or questioning.
A video now circulating online captures the moment the officer assaulted the unarmed man while onlookers begged him to stop. The footage has triggered widespread anger across social media, with Nigerians demanding accountability and an end to recurring cases of brutality by security personnel.
Human rights groups have strongly condemned the incident, calling on the Nigerian Army and Police authorities to launch a swift and impartial investigation and ensure that anyone involved faces the full weight of the law.
As at the time of filing this report, both the Nigerian Army and the Ogun State Police Command have yet to publicly respond to the allegations.
This case adds to growing concerns about the conduct of security officials in Nigeria, as citizens continue to push for reforms, transparency, and the protection of human rights.
