Tenure Case of Reinstated Local Government Officials Still Active – Adjourned to February 2026__ Osun APC Cautions PDP and Governor Adeleke

APC sues Gov Adeleke for appointing himself as commissioner

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has stated that the ongoing legal case concerning the tenure of the recently reinstated local government chairmen and councillors remains unresolved and is still before the Federal High Court.

According to the party, attempts by Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to mislead the public and create false sympathy over the issue will not stand. The APC noted that rather than presenting facts, the state government has continually pushed out distorted information since the Supreme Court ruling that invalidated its appointed LG officials.

The party further questioned why the PDP failed to inform the public about **Suit No. FHC/OS/CS/147/2025**, which seeks a judicial interpretation of the actual tenure of the reinstated APC officials. The matter was heard last month and has now been scheduled for continuation in **February 2026**.

A major point before the court is whether the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) had the legal authority to conduct another local government election in February 2025 when the tenure of the reinstated chairmen and councillors was still active.

The APC stressed that the so-called “election” claimed by the state government on 22nd February 2025 remains questionable and widely regarded by the public as an unlawful process, not a legitimate exercise.

The party also accused some members of the PDP, including Kolapo Alimi, of pushing narratives aimed at provoking the public against the APC. According to the statement, these claims run contrary to the law and the binding court judgement already delivered.

It warned that the governor and his allies should stop twisting facts around the local government matter, as such actions endanger the peace of the state.

The APC emphasised that the court will determine whether the reinstated chairmen and councillors are legally entitled to the full three-year tenure stipulated by law, having officially resumed office in February 2025.

The party called on security agencies—the Police, DSS, and NSCDC—to pay close attention to any actions capable of causing unrest, especially with the threats and hostile behaviour reportedly coming from some PDP members after the Supreme Court ruling. The Otan-Aiyegbaju incident in Boluwaduro Local Government was cited as an example of how violence can be triggered.

As a responsible opposition party, the APC appealed to parents and guardians to caution their children not to be used as instruments of violence by politicians who protect their own families but push others into danger.

The party also urged its members and supporters to remain calm and avoid any form of violence as the legal process continues.
