Breaking: Oyebamiji Clinches APC Ticket for Osun 2026 Governorship Race

Munirudeen Oyebamiji has been chosen as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the August 8, 2026 election in Osun State. His emergence was sealed on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the party’s primary held at Imperial Hall, Osogbo, where the 1,660 accredited delegates unanimously adopted him as the party’s flag bearer.

The decision followed a motion moved by Kunle Adegoke (SAN), one of the governorship aspirants who withdrew from the race, urging the party to affirm Oyebamiji as its candidate. Adegoke explained that the endorsement reflected the collective decision of all APC aspirants in the state to step aside in support of Oyebamiji. The motion was seconded by another aspirant, Babajide Omoworare, who confirmed the unanimous resolve of the aspirants.

Chairman of the APC 2025 Primary Election Committee and Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, subsequently subjected the motion to a voice vote. With all delegates in agreement, Oyebamiji was formally affirmed as the APC candidate for the 2026 governorship election. Governor Okpebholo thereafter urged party members to remain united, expressing optimism that the APC would secure victory in Osun with Oyebamiji leading the ticket.

In his acceptance speech, Oyebamiji thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr Adegboyega Oyetola, the Igbimo Agba Osun, and other party leaders for their support. He pledged to run an inclusive and people-focused campaign, promising to prioritize productivity, good governance, and development if elected. Describing Osun as standing at a critical point, he assured party members and residents that he is ready to lead the state towards greater prosperity.

The primary was attended by several prominent party leaders, including aspirants who stepped down for Oyebamiji, Minister Adegboyega Oyetola, Ondo State Governor and Co-Chairman of the Primary Committee, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, Senator Francis Fadahunsi, and members of the Igbimo Agba Osun led by Sola Akinwumi, among others.
