Dangote Promises More Reduction in Petrol Prices Nationwide

Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, has assured Nigerians that the cost of petrol will continue to drop across the country. This assurance comes barely a day after he hinted at an upcoming reduction in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
In a statement released on Monday, the company confirmed that MRS, which runs more than 2,000 filling stations nationwide, has already reduced the pump price of petrol in Lagos to ₦739 per litre from ₦885. Dangote said the price would fall even further, adding that from Tuesday, PMS would not sell above ₦740 per litre at all MRS outlets in Lagos.
He also announced that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has lowered its minimum purchase volume from two million litres to 500,000 litres. According to him, this decision will allow more marketers, including independent operators, to buy directly from the refinery. He disclosed that PMS is currently available at the refinery for about ₦699 per litre.
Dangote explained that the refinery is operating nonstop to ensure that the recent price reductions at the depot level are reflected at filling stations nationwide. He added that locally refined fuel offers better quality than imported products, stressing that Nigerians now have access to cleaner and more affordable petrol.
Addressing concerns from fuel importers, Dangote said the refinery was built mainly to serve the interest of Nigerians, not to protect importers’ profits. He revealed plans to expand the use of CNG-powered trucks for distribution and stated that the company is ready to increase its fleet beyond the current 4,000 trucks if necessary to keep fuel prices affordable nationwide.
