Trump: U.S. Will Run Venezuela for Now, Open Its Oil to American Companies

Following the removal of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States will temporarily manage Venezuela’s affairs until a safe and orderly transition is established.
Trump stated that Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez has been sworn in as acting president and has agreed to cooperate with U.S. officials. “She had a long conversation with Marco Rubio and agreed to work with us,” Trump said. “She had little choice in the matter.”
The President emphasized that the move will allow American oil companies to access Venezuela’s vast reserves. “We’re going to have our major U.S. oil companies—some of the largest in the world—invest billions to restore operations and production in Venezuela,” he explained, noting the potential impact on the global energy market.
Trump added that U.S. oversight would continue only until a proper and judicious political transition can take place in the country.
