Blind Child Adopted by Oshiomhole 14 Years Ago Becomes Law Graduate

Former Edo State Governor and current Senator representing Edo North, **Comrade Adams Oshiomhole**, recently paid a visit to the family of **Joyce Imasuen**, a visually impaired young woman he took under his care 14 years ago. The visit, which took place along Upper Siluko Road in Benin City, attracted a warm reception from residents who gathered to welcome the former governor.

Joyce, now **21 years old**, has successfully completed her studies at the **University of Benin**, graduating with a **Second Class Upper degree in Law**—a milestone that drew admiration from many.

Speaking during the visit, Oshiomhole recalled adopting Joyce in **2011**, explaining that he never viewed her disability as a limitation. He expressed pride in her determination, noting that her decision to study law initially surprised him due to the rigour of the course.

“Instead of dwelling on what you cannot change, you chose to prove that determination can take you anywhere,” Oshiomhole said. “Many people without disabilities struggle to earn a law degree, yet you finished with a 2.1. This achievement has reshaped my perspective entirely. Your future has no limits.”

He admitted that he initially suggested less demanding courses but applauded Joyce for remaining firm in her choice. “You were confident in yourself and committed fully. Today, you are a law graduate, and that speaks volumes,” he added.

Joyce, in her response, described Oshiomhole as a father figure who consistently supported her education and wellbeing. She revealed that he ensured she received quality secondary education at **Queen’s College, Lagos**, and later supported her university journey when she gained admission into UNIBEN in **2019**.

“He made sure I lacked nothing,” Joyce said. “He even provided a laptop to help with my studies and ensured my time in school was stress-free, aside from academic pressure. I completed my programme on January 31, 2025, and I’m proud to say I graduated with a 2.1. I am deeply grateful to God for bringing Senator Adams Oshiomhole into my life.”

Joyce’s father, **Michael Imasuen**, expressed heartfelt appreciation, noting that the former governor relieved him of a burden he might not have been able to shoulder alone as a teacher.

“What could have been overwhelming for me, he took upon himself,” he said. “My daughter never wasted the opportunity. I am truly grateful to Comrade Oshiomhole for standing by us.”

Also present was **Melody Omosah, Esq**, Executive Director of the Network for the Advancement of People with Disabilities (NAPVID), who praised Oshiomhole’s commitment, stressing that his relationship with Joyce has always been personal and not politically motivated.

“This bond goes beyond politics,” she said. “He remains in constant contact with her, and we sincerely appreciate his genuine support.”

Joyce was **nine years old** when Oshiomhole adopted her during his tenure as governor, a decision that has now yielded an inspiring success story.
