21 Kano Lawmakers, Reps, LG Chairmen Dump NNPP, Declare Support for Gov Yusuf

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced his resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), alongside 21 members of the State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives, and 44 Local Government Chairmen.

The governor made his decision known in a formal letter addressed to the Chairman of the Diso-Chiranchi Ward of the NNPP in Gwale Local Government Area. In the letter, he stated that his resignation takes effect from January 25, 2026.

Yusuf expressed appreciation to the party leadership and members for the opportunity to be part of the NNPP since 2022. He thanked them for their support, goodwill, and cooperation throughout his time in the party.

Explaining his decision, the governor pointed to ongoing internal crises within the NNPP, including leadership disputes and unresolved legal battles currently before the courts. He said these issues have weakened the party and created uncertainty at both the state and national levels.

According to him, rising dissatisfaction among members has led to deep divisions and structural weaknesses that now appear difficult to resolve. He noted that these problems have continued to affect unity and stability within the party.

Yusuf said that after careful consideration, he concluded that leaving the NNPP was in the best interest of Kano State and its people. He stressed that his decision was made in good faith and without bitterness.

He added that despite his exit, he remains committed to promoting peace, unity, and development in the state, and pledged to continue working for the progress and welfare of Kano residents.
