Maikalangu Showcases Achievements
The Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has rolled out a detailed account of his administration’s milestones, highlighting strides in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and grassroots empowerment across the council.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ engagement in Abuja, Maikalangu reaffirmed his commitment to people-focused governance, noting that his leadership has been driven by the desire to improve living standards in both urban and rural communities under AMAC.
Infrastructure and Road Development
One of the key areas emphasized was infrastructure renewal. According to the chairman, several roads within satellite towns and densely populated communities have been rehabilitated to ease transportation challenges. Drainage systems were also constructed and cleared in flood-prone areas to reduce environmental hazards and safeguard properties.
He explained that improved road networks have enhanced access to markets, schools, and health facilities, boosting commercial activities and daily commuting for residents.
Education and School Support
In the education sector, Maikalangu’s administration reportedly renovated classrooms in selected primary schools, provided furniture for pupils, and supported teacher development initiatives. He stressed that investment in basic education remains critical to building a strong foundation for the council’s future.
The council has also distributed learning materials to public schools, ensuring that pupils have access to essential tools for academic success.
Healthcare Interventions
On healthcare delivery, the AMAC chairman highlighted efforts to upgrade primary healthcare centres across wards. Medical equipment has been supplied, and some facilities have undergone renovation to improve service delivery.
He added that periodic health outreach programmes, including immunization campaigns and maternal care initiatives, have been intensified to reach vulnerable populations.
Youth and Women Empowerment
Recognizing the importance of economic inclusion, Maikalangu pointed to empowerment schemes targeting youths and women. Through vocational training programmes and small-scale business support, beneficiaries have been equipped with skills and resources to become self-reliant.
The administration has also partnered with private organizations to create job opportunities and entrepreneurship pathways for young people within the council.
Revenue and Administrative Reforms
Maikalangu noted that reforms in revenue collection and internal administration have strengthened the council’s financial capacity. By blocking leakages and promoting transparency, AMAC has been able to channel more resources into developmental projects.
He assured residents that accountability remains a top priority, promising that every kobo generated will be utilized for the collective good of the people.
Commitment to Inclusive Governance
The chairman reiterated that community engagement has been central to his leadership style. Regular consultations with traditional leaders, youth groups, and civil society organizations have helped identify pressing needs and shape policy responses.
As his administration progresses, Maikalangu pledged to consolidate on existing achievements while initiating new projects aimed at sustainable development. He urged residents to continue supporting the council’s programmes, emphasizing that collective effort is essential to building a more prosperous AMAC.
