Igboho’s APC-Branded Cap Appearance Sparks Political Debate

Yoruba nation campaigner Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, has stirred reactions after appearing in a cap bearing the logo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at a public event.

Igboho attended the first Ramadan lecture hosted by the Rasheed Ladoja following his coronation as Olubadan of Ibadanland. A video from the event, which has since circulated widely online, shows Igboho wearing the APC-branded fez cap as he greeted the monarch and the guest lecturer, Sheikh Muyideen Salmon, the Chief Imam of Offa.

The footage has generated widespread discussion on social media, with many drawing comparisons between Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu, particularly regarding their political trajectories and separatist advocacy.

Meanwhile, Olayomi Koiki, spokesperson to Igboho, recently disclosed that preparations have been finalized for the activist’s return to Nigeria. According to him, several prominent traditional rulers intervened on Igboho’s behalf, appealing to President Bola Tinubu to remove his name from the list of wanted persons.

Koiki stated that monarchs who reportedly played key roles in the intervention include Oba Ladoja, the Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Francis Alao, among others.

Igboho left Nigeria on July 1, 2021, after security operatives, including personnel from the Department of State Services and the Nigerian Army, raided his residence in Ibadan over allegations of illegal arms possession. The operation followed heightened tensions surrounding his campaign against armed herdsmen in the South-West.

During the raid, three of his aides lost their lives, while 13 others were arrested. Igboho later fled to the Benin Republic, where he was apprehended at Cotonou Airport on July 19, 2021, while attempting to travel to Germany. He remained in detention for over a year before regaining freedom in March 2022.

Under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Igboho was declared wanted, reportedly denied passport services, and had his bank accounts frozen despite court rulings in his favor.

In 2025, during a visit to the palace of the Olugbon in Orile Igbon, Surulere Local Government Area of Oyo State, Igboho publicly expressed his desire to return home, appealing to President Tinubu’s government to clear his name. A similar request was made to the Olubadan.

Koiki later announced that the Presidency has granted the necessary clearance, stating that Igboho may return to Nigeria at any time and will be fully reintegrated following the resolution of his status.
