Ondo State Loses Esteemed High Court Judge, Justice Adeyeye, at 65

Justice Bamidele Fola Adeyeye, a respected judge of the Ondo State High Court, has passed away at the age of 65, the Ondo State Judiciary confirmed on Friday.

The Chief Registrar of the State High Court, Mr. Ayodeji Akinsanya, announced the death in a statement from Akure, revealing that Justice Adeyeye departed on Thursday, March 12, 2026.

“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Hon. Justice B. F. Adeyeye, a distinguished jurist and serving judge of High Court 5, Akure,” the statement read. “Justice Adeyeye was a beacon of integrity, wisdom, and dedication to justice. His years on the bench were marked by an unwavering commitment to fairness, equity, and the rule of law.”

The statement added that Justice Adeyeye was widely respected by colleagues, members of the Bar, and the public for his erudition, humility, and impartiality. His contributions to strengthening the judiciary and advancing justice in Ondo State will remain indelible.

According to the statement, his passing represents a significant loss not only for the judiciary but also for Ondo State and Nigeria at large. The judiciary extended heartfelt condolences to his family, praying for the fortitude to bear the loss and that his soul rests in perfect peace.

Justice Adeyeye was sworn in as a High Court judge on September 8, 2011. Born on January 16, 1961, he had previously established the law firm Fola Adeyeye & Co in Okitipupa, Okitipupa Local Government Area, before his appointment to the bench (according to The Guardian).

Peers and legal practitioners have described him as a jurist whose dedication to justice and ethical standards left a lasting impact on the Ondo legal community. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that his death has prompted tributes from across the legal profession, highlighting his commitment to fairness and the rule of law.
