Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Asake has shared a rare glimpse into his formative years, revealing how family resistance, particularly from his father helped shaped his determination to pursue music.

In a recent conversation with content creator Korty EO, the “Lungu Boy” crooner recounted leaving home at the age of 15 in defiance of his father’s wishes. According to him, the decision marked a turning point in his life, as he chose to follow his passion despite opposition.

Reflecting on the strained moment, the singer noted that his father’s strong personality often clashed with his own ambitions. He admitted that although they shared a close bond during his early years, disagreements emerged when he expressed interest in pursuing music full-time. Still, he remained resolute in chasing his dream ,according to The PUNCH Newspaper.

Asake explained that at the time, he was fully focused on building a future in music and was unwilling to be swayed. His persistence, he said, ultimately laid the foundation for the success he enjoys today.
